Black Skies was elected into the Top 20 Best New Bands of 2008 on Total Rock Radio! Thanks to everyone who voted for
us! Tune in to the show sometime at www.totalrock.com. 2008 was a great year for Black Skies!
The entire year was spent with the same drummer. We have gotten a lot accomplished with this line-up and are planning on getting even more accomplished in 2009! At the beginning of the year, we met a couple great bands during shows that have turned into lasting friendships so we just wanted to
mention them here:
In January, we met Howl from Providence, RI and have since played several shows with them. Check em out here:
www.myspace.com/howlheavymetal In February we went on a short tour with our friends Caltrop which is always a good
time! During this tour, we were pleasantly surprised by Chattanooga band, Night Of The Wolf:
www.myspace.com/nightofthewolfmusic Then in March, we played a couple shows with Atlanta band, All The
Saints....these guys are awesome! www.myspace.com/allthesaints Then we did a small tour in April where we met
Electric Horsemen (www.myspace.com/electrichorsemen) out of PA at our wonderful friends, Backwoods Payback house
show...This was a great time played outside in a shed with LOTS of fire, booze and food. Awesome! We have played
with so many awesome bands that there is not even close to enough room here which is why I've posted a past shows
blog on our Myspace page that lists all our past shows along with the bands we have had the pleasure of rocking with!
In June, we put out our second EP, Hexagon just in time for the June tour of the eastern half of the US where we covered
about 6000 miles in 23 days. For our tour blog with more details and pictures, go to our Myspace page:
www.myspace.com/losblackskies and click on our blog! Even though gas prices were at $4.00 per gallon at that time, we
still had a successful tour thanks to all of you who came to the shows, put us up, fed us, bought our merch and got us
drunk. Thank you! In August, we played a show for a documentary called, Slow Southern Steel. The film is about
underground heavy bands south of the mason dixon. It will have intense live performances from some of the crustiest,
doomiest, and most progressive of heavy bands from the south. To read more and check out the other bands that are a
part of this, go here: www.myspace.com/slowsouthernsteel. We then rounded out the year with a couple short tours with
some of our favorite road pals, Pride Parade from Athens, GA (www.myspace.com/prideparade69) and Backwoods
Payback (www.myspace.com/backwoodspayback666) from West Chester, PA.
A couple other highlights from 2008: Sirena Discos put out Aqua Dogs b/w Family Man 7 inch on white and black vinyl
with screenprinted covers by Ron Liberti. To purchase a 7 inch, or other Black Skies merch, go to our website:
www.blackskies.us/merch. We also had the pleasure of rocking it with Kylesa and Jucifer! 2009 will bring the release of
Hexagon on 12 inch vinyl with cover art by awesome artist, Tom Denny! This is being released by Chicago label, I'm
Better Than Everyone Records. Check the site here: www.myspace.com/imbetterthaneveryonerec In other exciting news,
we have been accepted to SXSW 2009 and are currently booking shows to and from the festival. We hope to see some of
you in Austin! After our trip to Austin, we plan to do another US tour during the summer...hopefully spanning into the
West coast this time! If any of you have any suggestions or ideas for shows or want us to come back to your town,
please let us know and we'll make it happen! Other than that, we are writing songs for what we hope will become a full
length to be recorded this year. Stay tuned....
